
PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI ASSENTS THE FEDERAL COMPETITION AND CONSUMER PROTECTION BILL
On Wednesday 6th February 2019, the consumer protection council of Nigeria, released a press statement that President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill, thereby making this bill the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2019.
According to the statement by the Director General of the Council; Babatunde Irukera, this Act deepens the framework for encouraging and supporting small and medium scale businesses by ensuring a playing field that eliminates entry barriers and operational obstacles which prevent sustainability and profitability.
Also, this competition framework is a key tool in reducing poverty, increasing value for money and ensuring consumer satisfaction in Nigeria as stated in the press statement.
